5.41.4: Lesson 41 — American Literature

Welcome to Year 5 of your American English studies with Maestro Sersea.  Throughout this year, we will cover a variety of American literary genres. You are encouraged to listen, read along, and discuss each American text you are assigned each week.

We are now reading and listening to “Anna Christie” a play by Eugene O’Neill in 4 Acts.

Anna Christie is a drama by Eugene O’Neill about the title character, a young woman from the south who becomes a prostitute. The play follows her as she moves from being a naive girl to someone who has to learn how to survive in the seedy world of prostitution. In doing so she learns how to manipulate men. Her journey is one of self-discovery and an attempt at redemption for past sins.

Since the text and audio are long for each act, you will have two weeks per act.  It is suggested you spend the first week reading and listening and the second week reviewing and writing a summary of the act in the comments section below.

Directions: Please listen and read along, then share your insights and what you learned in the comments section below.
